Eyebrow Shaping: Pain-Free Tricks

Your eyebrows frame your face.  They help express your emotions.  Many professional makeup artists believe women with well-shaped eyebrows and good skin tone need little or no makeup.  Well-shaped brows play an important role in how you look.

Eyebrow Shaping will give your brows a cleaner look, which will help to balance and complement your facial features.

Eyebrow Shaping is a precise procedure.  Plucking too many brow hairs, or leaving extra hair, can make your face look unbalanced.

Most experts advise that you don’t shape your eyebrows yourself, because of the problems I’ve listed below.  But having them professionally done isn’t always the best answer.  Some people aren’t very good at it, and your eyebrows can turn out looking worse than they started out.  It’s painful.  And the cost can become expensive.

Eyebrow Shaping Costs:Eyebrow%20Tweezing Eyebrow Shaping: Pain Free Tricks

Eyebrow Threading: $15 to $50 (plus tip)
Electrolysis: $20 to $100
Eyebrow Waxing: $10 to $50 (plus tip)
Laser Hair Removal: $300 to $500

If you’re making a trip just for eyebrow shaping, it will cost $10 to $50, plus the gas to get there (which certainly isn’t cheap), and your time.  When I added it up, it was costing me about $40 per session (which did not include the value of my time).

Different Methods of Eyebrow Shaping

I totally love the Christi Harris Precision Brow Planing System, but I think is important to list the alternatives so you can compare them…

Eyebrow Tweezing can pull the hair out by the root, potentially destroying the hair so it never grows back…so you will never have eyebrows again.  That’s why so many women have sparse/thin, or even no eyebrows, and have to pencil them in.

I have a lot of friends in this situation. They just got carried away with plucking, and before they knew it, their eyebrows were pencil thin, and never grew back.

Eyebrow Threading is good for plucking the hair on your eyelid, and above the eyebrows, but it is difficult to shape your eyebrows using this method unless you have them professionally done.  You also have to be careful not to overpluck your eyebrows, or pluck your eyelashes.

Eyebrow Threading will irritate the skin.  Is not painful like plucking. Personally when I tried threading, the area around my eyebrows would always become inflamed.

Eyebrow Waxing is fairly quick.  Waxing removes all the hair (even fine hair), so you have a clean/smooth look.  It is easy to over-spread the wax and take out more hair than you intended, which will make your eyebrows look uneven.  Some people have a reaction to waxing (red or scabby skin), and it will take time to heal.

Electrolysis involves inserting a small needle into the hair follicle and delivering an electrical current.  The current kills the hair follicle, and then it is removed.  It may take several jolts of current before the hair can be removed.  Some of the hair may grow back (over time), so additional treatments may be required.

The skin around the eyebrows is very thin, so for many women electrolysis is very painful (count me as one of those women).  It can also irritate the skin, causing a minor rash.

Laser Eyebrow Shaping should probably be your last choice for eyebrow shaping. It involves the technician placing the laser slightly above the skin and zapping the hair around your brows.  It feels like someone popping you with a rubber-band.  The process only takes a few minutes, but there are side effects depending on your skin sensitivity and color.  People with sensitive skin usually see some reddening. People with darker skin get burns, or in rare cases permanent skin discoloration.

Eyebrow Shaping: Step-by-Step

First you should trim your brows. Brush your eyebrows up and away from your eyes.  Then trim any long hairs that extend beyond your natural brow line.

Take a eyebrow pencil and place it on one side of your nose, and line it up with the inside edge of your eye.  The brow should begin when the eyebrow hits the pencil.  If you are unsure, it is better to leave a little more hair.  It is safer to remove a little more than to take off too much.  Taking off too much can make your eyes appear far apart.

To determine the location of the arch of your eyebrows take the eyebrow pencil and place it on the tip of your nose, and angle it so it passes over the middle of the pupil of your eye.  Your arch is where the pencil intersects the eyebrow.

Place the eyebrow pencil against the edge of the nose, and lining it up with the outside corner of the eye.  Where the pencil intersects your brow is the end of your eyebrow.

Now that you have established the shape of your eyebrows, remove the excess hair above and below the eyebrow shape.

Eyebrow Shaping, when done properly, can make a big difference in your appearance.  The right system can make it easy, and mistake free.  Try the Christi Harris Precision Brow Planing System. You’ll be glad you did.
